PC System Requirements v1.05 (January 2013)

Operating system and hardware compatibility Colortrac SmartLF Gx, Cx+, Gx+, Ci and SC scanners
Colortrac SmartLF SC Series and SmartLF Gx+ scanners are compatible with the Windows 8 operating system environment.  For Windows 8 operation please ensure that you have the latest releases of scanner driver, firmware and for the SmartLF SC Series the latest release of SC Utilities.  SmartLF Cx, SmartLF Cx+ and SmartLF Gx scanners are not compatible.  SmartLF Ci compatibility with Windows 8 will be announced shortly.

* SmartLF SC operates as a USB2 connected scanner for Windows XP.  This is a limitation of the XP operating system. ** SmartLF SC operates as a USB2 connected scanner for Windows XP.  On first-use some icons and Windows may not size correctly. These are limitations of the XP operating system.

Computer hardware requirements for SmartLF scanners

• Newer Colortrac scanners are compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows 8 operating systems.  Some models will not work with Windows 8 (see above table).  Please note the limitations for Windows XP when using SmartLF SC scanners and the SmartWorks EZ Touch software
• Colortrac SmartWorks EZ and SmartWorks EZ Touch software operate in Touch Mode with Windows 7 and Windows 8 using a compatible touch screen without additional drivers.  To use these programs with Windows Vista or Windows XP, a touch driver from the touch screen manufacturer is required.  For optimal screen comfort with SmartWorks EZ operators on higher resolution touch monitors (above 1280 pixels height axis) users may prefer to reduce the screen operating resolution slightly or run with a larger screen font size
• SmartWorks EZ Touch is designed to work with monitors which have a screen height axis resolution of 800 pixels or better
• SmartWorks EZ Touch is a full-time, full screen application and is not designed to be minimised.  To select other programs while still running SmartWorks EZ Touch use Alt+Tab
• Microsoft .NET may need to be installed or updated on older operating systems when installing the Colortrac SmartWorks EZ bundled software (SmartWorks EZ Touch does not require .NET)
• Intel Celeron, Core-Duo, Core-2-Duo or 2.8GHz Hyper-Threading (HT), i3,i5 or i7 processors or AMD Dual-Core processors
• Memory – 2GB RAM for XP and 32-bit Windows 7, at least 3GB RAM for 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows 8, 3GB RAM for Vista 32-bit or 64-bit with minimum 2GB for applications and 20GB free for images
• Hard disk – high speed 7,200rpm Serial ATA (SATA) HDD (may not be suitable for USB3 high-speed disk writes)

Requirements for SmartLF SC scanners

For USB2 operation – as above. For USB3 operation – SATA 6.0Gbit/sec USB3 on the motherboard and SATA 6.0Gbit 7,200 rpm HDD controller and minimum of 4GB memory.  Manufactured PCs with pre-configured USB3 PCIe add-in cards are acceptable. SmartLF SC scanners have an enhanced USB2 speed and are approximately 50% faster than earlier generation USB2 Colortrac scanners supporting data rates up to approximately 35MB/sec.  A higher performance computer may be required to match the maximum scan and data speeds achievable with this newer generation USB2. IMPORTANT:SmartLF SC scanners operate as USB2 devices under Windows XP and will not achieve their maximum designed USB3 data speed of 60-85MB/sec.  To achieve high USB3 scan speeds a Windows Vista, Windows 7 or later operating system must be used with the computer specification described above.  SmartLF SC scanners are not compatible with the Etron USB3 chipset.  If there is a possibility the USB3 cable has been physically damaged it should be replaced immediately.  Broken USB3 cables can very quickly cause permanent computer damage.  If you find the scanner does not scan properly using USB3 but works properly with USB2 then the USB3 driver in the computer may not be up-to-date.

Colortrac recommended PC specification for SmartLF Gx, Cx+, Gx+, Ci and SC scanners

• Colortrac recommend a computer specification that exceeds the processor speed, RAM and architecture of the minimum specification

Scanner application software

• All Colortrac scanner software is 32-bit and compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit Windows operating systems. On a 64-bit operating system 32-bit emulation mode is used. 32-bit emulation mode running inside a 64-bit architecture is not likely to improve scanner performance

USB and Ethernet scanner drivers

• All Colortrac scanner Ethernet, USB2 and USB3 drivers are compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit computer processor architectures.  All Colortrac scanners are compatible with Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Windows XP operating systems

• Computers must be USB2/USB3 compatible and have Gigabit Ethernet data ports for Ethernet equipped scanners.  Directly connected Gigabit Ethernet switches or 10/100 switches will not work
• Colortrac SmartLF 4080 is not compatible with 64-bit operating systems and is not tested for Windows 7.
