Software Installation

Every SmartLF scanner ships with the SmartLF CD. This CD contains the Windows drivers for the scanner and the SmartLF application.  CopySmart is normally sold as an option and ships as a separate CD.  On the CopySmart CD there is the CopySmart installation program and the link or drivers for the HASP or similar protection key (dongle).

Insert the Software Installation CD that ships with every scanner into the computer you intend to use with your new Colortrac SmartLF scanner.  If the Software Installation Disk splash screen does not pop up right away you may need to right-mouse click and choose AutoPlay, or alternatively use Explorer to double-click the Launch.exe file in the root of this CD.   Click install software and then proceed to select the operating system used on your computer.

NOTE: You will need to use Administrator privileges to first install CopySmart.  After installation, users with limited privileges will still be able to use the software but will not be able to remove or re-install the CopySmart product.  CopySmart uses a software protection USB dongle.  If CopySmart reports that there is no security key check that the HASP key driver has been installed from the Colortrac CD.

1 Scanner off or unplugged

When CopySmart is run for the first time with the scanner switched off the software will detect this and the Wizard will show the following screen [right].

Scanner not connected or not switched on!
Please check the scanner to computer connection and ensure the scanner is switched on

[Remedy] Plug in the scanner or switch it on and wait for the display to show the firmware version. In the case of the Gx range please remember that the scanner can take as long as 1 hour before it will be at the correct temperature.  Where the scanner has been stored at a very different temperature a longer period of time should be allowed for the scanner to temperature stabilise.

2 CopySmart Configuration Wizard

When CopySmart starts for the first time with a connected and powered-up SmartLF scanner the automatic Wizard will detect that the scanner needs to be colour calibrated.  If the answer to the following questions is YES then proceed by clicking Next.  If you need to wait until the scanner is warm click Cancel.

You can return to the scanner calibration at any time by clicking the blue scanner i button.

After scanner calibration is completed the Wizard will move on to calibrate the printer.  If you would rather learn more about CopySmart and instead calibrate the printer later on you can Cancel the Printer Wizard and restart it any time by pressing the printer i button.

Normalise your scanner if the answer to any of the questions below is NO.  Normalisation is a scanner maintenance function and available through the Utilities programs supplied on the scanner CD.

3 Setting your language

Choose your operating language for CopySmart by clicking the World icon in the top right-hand corner of CopySmart. CopySmart will automatically select a language for display based upon the operating system language installed on the computer it is running on. If the language is unavailable, the default will be English UK.  Always Restart CopySmart after a language change.

4 Finding the release version

Go to the top right-hand corner of CopySmart and click the blue i-button. This will bring up the version box.

NOTE: Generally i-buttons provide further configuration of specific areas of CopySmart which are intended to be changed on a less frequent basis such as choice of printer, scan resolution and so on.

Hot-tips is a feature which displays extra information about the configuration underneath the i-button without the need to physically select it first.
