CopySmart uses the IT8 target to first calibrate itself, then it becomes a densitometer to read the output from the linearisation target and finally a colour spectrophotometer to read back the printer colour swatches. It's hardly surprising that this process is not always quite as good or effective as using the precision equipment specifically developed for these tasks.
If TINT REMOVAL is permanently disabled CopySmart may occasionally produce a green tint in some colour shades - yellow or greys. This effect is normally kept in check (but is traded off by a small reduction in detail copying performance) by the TINT REMOVAL being set to a value of 4. The user control for TINT REMOVAL can be found in the Printer Set up dialogue box and is automatically set to 4 with every new printer installation. This value may be too high for some originals containing a lot of detail in the lighter end of the colour spectrum. By reducing the value to 2 it may be possible to increase sharpness in the copy without reducing the colour performance of CopySmart too much.
LEFT (towards zero) boosts detail in the very light areas of the copy
RIGHT (towards eight) boosts the tint removal action and purifies primary colours
Quite often using a Tint Removal value of 0 (zero) will provide perfect detail response and very satisfactory colour but the best colour performance overall will usually be produced with a Tint Removal setting of 4 (the default).
TIP: When copying maps some colours can be adversely affected by sharpening too aggressively or lowering the TINT REMOVAL to 0. To reproduce and sharpen this type of original without changing the colour fidelity performance of CopySmart use a TINT REMOVAL of 4 with a sharpen filter setting of 5.
