Cx 40 Stand Mania
New Cx 40 scanners begin shipping in volume
After a hectic few weeks Colortrac can now confirm that the successor to SmartLF the brand new SmartLF Cx 40 is now in full production.  Orders for the new CIS scanner have been pouring in and Colortrac can only express their sincerest apologies to all distributors who have or will be affected by the unavoidable delays in shipments.

Following the announcement of the new model it was thought that interest in the SmartLF 4080 might start to falter.  This didn't happen and sales of the old model remained strong and were completely exhausted by the end of January breaking all records for scanner sales at this time of the year.

BELOW -  Some of the true-grit delegates who stayed right to the end on Friday afternoon.  Such was the pace of the conference that we were too busy to take photos during the event.
LEFT - Some of the delegates carried on still further and braved the crisp and frosty Saturday morning to see around the marvellous colleges and architecture of Cambridge city centre.  A special tour, given by a local expert had been organised by Colortrac for all who were interested. It was a great morning!

2005 Cambridge Conference holds
the record for best attended Colortrac conference
The Conference was held at the Garden Moat House in the centre of Cambridge near to the Colortrac headquarters in the UK.  It was a huge success thanks mainly to the fantastic loyalty of our distribution partners.  They came from as far away as Australia (DES Pty), ) Russia (STC) and   Venezuela and together represented a tremendous effort making the 2005 conference really one of the best attended ever.

As usual our software partners also attended and provided much appreciated information on their range of products, many of which have SmartLF drivers already built into their applications.  This year new CLASP members Softcover (Steve Hannath & Andrea Tribe) and RATIO (Juergen Dauk & Willi Klemens) took the stand to tell us more.
It's been a while and news from the conference back in November is well overdue.  As you can imagine things have been fairly hectic since then but these are some of the photos from the event.  The conference was a well attended and enjoyable time for us at Colortrac - in spite of the very cold (but bright) weather.
Colortrac Conference Talk
Guest speaker Jeremy Spiller from White Hat Media gave a very detailed and interesting talk on web marketing.  Designed to inform the relative newcomer to e-marketing the emphasis was on methods of creating a web presence ethically and at minimum cost.

Colortrac opens new manufacturing company at Suzhou, P.R. China
The new company will source components and produce electro-mechanical assemblies for export to the UK where they are combined with UK-manufactured electronics and software to produce finished scanners for sale world-wide.

Colortrac MD Graham Tinn says, "Colortrac Suzhou is a key element of our growth strategy as we seek to expand manufacturing capacity for the tremendously successful SmartLF large format scanner line launched in September 2004 and in our preparations for major new product launches in the first half of 2006. Also, the formation of the new company will enable also Colortrac to control fully all its manufacturing activities, reduce production costs and ensure product quality for our customers."

Colortrac Imaging Systems (Suzhou) Co., Ltd is 100% owned by Colortrac Ltd and is established as a Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise (WFOE). Colortrac SZ has been formed in Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP), a large special development area about 80Km outside Shanghai.
Turkish Colortrac Distributor CopyTech www.kopitek.com are really serious about our products.  So committed that they have put our name on their company van and premises.

Peter Sandberg on his trip to turkey last year training CopyTech on the SmartLF product witnessed this for himself as these pictures below show.
Distributor Profile - Copitech, Turkey
Colortrac was recently one of twenty-two companies from the eastern region of the UK that was awarded for its success in international trading by the government organisation UK Trade & Investment. Sponsored by itrade these were the first ever regional awards that formally recognised the achievements of companies registered on the UK Trade & Investment’s Passport to Export scheme.

In particular Colortrac was recognised in the Selecting and Managing Overseas Partners (or SMOP) category and was the region's overall winner.  SMOP is a development scheme aimed at improving the skills of the region’s international trading companies when selecting and managing overseas partners.  Colortrac used the scheme to identify opportunities for new distributors and to better manage existing ones and was able to attribute some of Colortrac's turn-round in the last 3 years directly to ideas developed from involvement in SMOP.

The Greater China Roadshow
Graham Tinn, Managing Director of Colortrac Ltd was a keynote speaker at the Greater China Roadshow held in Cambridge, UK in February.  The event, organised by UK Trade & Investment with the support of the China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) was designed to help traders and exporters from the East of England understand more about the benefits and challenges of working closely with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.

Graham based his talk on personal experience in China going back some 6 years and was able to provide valuable insight into the cultural and business issues facing any organisation planning a move into China.  In Colortrac's own case this began with the appointment of TsingHua as a distribution partner, advancing into contract design and manufacture and finally moving on to the formation of a WFOE - the Wholly Foreign Owned Enterprise.
As Graham says, "China is a great place to do business.  The bureaucracy can be a little frustrating at times but the Chinese always manage to find a way through.  They are also very hard-working and have a high degree of integrity which makes them a pleasure to work with.  Finally the food is marvellous - just look out for the occasional surprise that's all!"

TUNE UP YOUR SmartLF 4080!

One of the main advantages with new SmartLF Cx 40 is the complete elimination of the document pressure adjustment slider.  Although an innovation in the original SmartLF 4080e scanner design this feature does demand correct usage.  Also if it has been changed at some stage the replacement must be set to the correct height to function correctly.  So, if you are getting reports of bands of color change corresponding to the width of the sensor with one of your 4080e machines please check, or have your dealer check the following:

VPHD maximum gap should be no more than 0.4mm

Follow the instructions in the SmartLF 4080 Service Manual to set the height of the paper hold down (when moved to its highest setting position - FAR RIGHT) to be no more than 0.4mm.  Use a suitable thickness gauge and ensure that the gap is maintained across the full width of the scanner.

VPHD Calibration position when manually calibrating the scanner

When using the manual calibration method (a clean sheet of paper) the variable pressure hold down (VPHD) or pressure slider should always be moved fully to the LEFT where it pushes the calibration media close up to the scanner glass.
