In particular
Colortrac was recognised in the Selecting and Managing Overseas
Partners (or SMOP) category and was the region's overall winner.
SMOP is a development scheme aimed at improving the skills of the region’s
international trading companies when selecting and managing overseas partners.
Colortrac used the scheme to identify opportunities for new distributors
and to better manage existing ones and was able to attribute some of Colortrac's
turn-round in the last 3 years directly to ideas developed from involvement
in SMOP.

The
Greater China Roadshow
Graham
Tinn, Managing Director of Colortrac Ltd was a keynote speaker at
the Greater China Roadshow held in Cambridge, UK in February. The
event, organised by UK Trade & Investment with the support of the
China-Britain Business Council (CBBC) was designed to help traders and
exporters from the East of England understand more about the benefits
and challenges of working closely with China, Hong Kong and Taiwan.
Graham based his talk on personal experience in China going back some
6 years and was able to provide valuable insight into the cultural and
business issues facing any organisation planning a move into China.
In Colortrac's own case this began with the appointment of TsingHua as
a distribution partner, advancing into contract design and manufacture
and finally moving on to the formation of a WFOE - the Wholly Foreign
Owned Enterprise.
As Graham says, "China is a great place to do business. The
bureaucracy can be a little frustrating at times but the Chinese always
manage to find a way through. They are also very hard-working and
have a high degree of integrity which makes them a pleasure to work with.
Finally the food is marvellous - just look out for the occasional surprise
that's all!"
