TEPEDE Croatia Launch
Last month saw the appointment of TEPEDE Croatia as Colortrac's latest distributor in eastern europe for SmartLF.  TEPEDE Croatia boasts an impressive range of quality printer products backed up by a high calibre technical team.  During the visit, Encad and KIP printers were used to reproduce originals using SmartLF.  Colour and monochrome copies were output on demand at their offices in Zagreb using SmartLF and CopySmart software.  Colortrac is confident that TEPEDE can do a great job selling and supporting the sales of SmartLF in Croatia.
Peter de Winter-Brown (Director, Colortrac Sales & Marketing) visited Budapest in April to complete formal talks - seen here with Csaba Bajko, Product Manager DICOM Magyarorszag Kft (formerly ELSAT International) in the Budapest offices.  DICOM, a small and large format enterprise systems reseller are also interested in offering the SmartLF ISIS solution when it comes out later this year.

As another financial year comes to an end Colortrac are pleased to announce that SmartLF sales in the last seven months since its release have exceeded expectations.  Launched in September 2004 there is no doubt that the SmartLF concept is paying off.  SmartLF appears to be creating new market opportunities, increasing Colortrac market share and competing successfully with the entry-level products of our main competitors.  Alongside SmartLF the quality of the Colortrac Series4 range (open aperture CCD scanner) continues to ensure that it finds its own distinctive and unique customer base.  Just recently the FB24120 A1 flatbed scanner has found some new and interesting applications with encouraging sales in different parts of the globe.
Canon launch new imagePROGRAF W6400 and W8400 LF printers
In March Colortrac attended the Budapest internal launch of the new imagePROGRAF colour enhanced large format inkjet printers from Canon.  Colortrac had been invited to formally present SmartLF to the gathered Canon dignitaries.  In April Canon went public with the new printer models and Colortrac Engineering are now on track to release CopySmart and CopyWorks compatible drivers for these products, probably around June.  Other news was that the W7200 now replaces the W3000 as the CAD workhorse printer.
The Canon W7200 is ideal for combining with SmartLF while the imagePROGRAF models are matched to the higher colour performance of the Colortrac Series 4 scanners.
Scanner gamma and brightness settings are set differently depending on the Colortrac model in use. ScanWorks V2.4.1.0 onwards now detects the scanner model attached and makes all adjustments automatically.  This is especially useful where the dealer /distributor  demonstrates SmartLF and Series4 Colortrac scanners using one computer.

A by-product of the SmartLF sharp focus system is occassional screen clash - an interaction of the scanner optical resolution with the screening pattern used in some originals.  Colortrac Engineering are testing a new CopySmart filter which reduces the rippling effect but at the same time retains fine details in the copy.

New SmartLF Floor Stand
Following feedback on the rigidity of the SmartLF floor stand from some distributors and dealers this component has been partly redesigned using an internal honeycomb structure.  There are no changes to the external appearance of the stand and apart from a small increase in weight the result is a much more stable platform for the SmartLF user who opts for the stand.
SCP, Germany

This well specified Colorado product from SCP  now supports Colortrac Series4 and SmartLF 4080M/C/E).
The SCP scan-to-print application is not low cost but will support most large format printers in common usage today.  Remember SCP also produce the low cost easyTWAIN driver which adds scanner support for SmartLF and Series4 Colortrac scanners to applications which are Twain compatible.

SmartLF Gets Rewind Option
From this month onwards all new SmartLF scanners will ship with firmware permitting the operator to rewind a document without needing to lift the lid of the scanner.  Available via the scanner control panel SCANNER REWIND works as follows:
IMPORTANT:  The V50.00 firmware which introduces this feature is not available for retrofitment in SmartLF scanners manufactured before May 2005
ANAtech Eagle 42160C to Pakistan
This month also saw the purchase of a 42" high accuracy Eagle scanner by Karachi based GeoConsult in Pakistan.  The scanner has been bought to support work done by the Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO) also in Karachi who are experts in aerial data analysis.  The criteria used to select the 42160C were; a high optical resolution of 800dpi, a market leading accuracy of 0.05% for a paper moving large format document scanner and a relatively small footprint suitable for general office installation.
