Exactaprint invests in digital technology

Located in the heart of Glasgow’s business district, Exactaprint provides a complete digital print service from initial design concept through to the production of the finished product. Competing with franchise operators such as Prontaprint and Kall Kwik, Exactaprint has built an enviable reputation for high quality and excellent customer service. To ensure that this reputation is maintained, the company, a division of J. R. Reid Print and Media Group Ltd. has invested heavily in digital technology and has recently added a Colortrac SmartLF* wide format scanner to its inventory.

Demonstration proves the point

Innes Reid, Manager of Exactaprint, commented, “Following the closure of a local competitor, who had offered wide format scanning, our customers asked us to offer this service.” Always keen to broaden its customer offering, the company realised that although it could satisfy the wide format printing needs of its customers it did not have its own wide format scanning capability. They contacted several scanner suppliers and were recommended a Colortrac machine. Innes continues, “As a result, we visited Colortrac’s UK distributor for a demonstration to confirm that it would meet our needs.”

Minimum training required

The scanner chosen by Exactaprint handles both color and monochrome documents of up to A0 width and any length. Innes says, “We use it with Colortrac scan-to-file software and if we need to do anything extra to the images we just take it into Photoshop® image editing software. We didn’t really need much training as the Colortrac scanner and software are so user friendly.”

Payback in under 12 months

Innes points out, “The Colortrac scanner certainly has given us more business opportunities. We can now meet the needs of architects and lawyers, in fact anyone who needs copies of large drawings and plans.” He adds, “If you are thinking of a scanner, do make sure you survey the market to see if there is a need in your area. It is certainly something to differentiate you from your competitors.” Innes concludes, “We’ve had the scanner for around six months, and it is used regularly handling maybe 10 to 15 scans every two or three days. If it has not paid for itself already, it will have done so very soon, probably in under a year.”
